Feasibility Design Review: Helping You Build with Confidence

Are you thinking of building a new home but unsure if you can afford what you really want? With rising interest rates, builders going out of business, and the ever-changing cost of construction materials, it’s no wonder many are asking themselves: Is now the right time to build, or should I wait?

Perhaps you’re dreaming of building a passive house, but everyone keeps telling you it’s too expensive. Or maybe you’re considering renovating or extending your existing home but don’t know where to start. Are you hesitant to engage a designer or builder because you fear hefty fees, only to discover the project is beyond your budget?

What if there was a quick and affordable way to explore your options without spending a fortune?

That’s exactly what our Feasibility Design Review service offers.

How Does It Work?

To give you a clearer picture, let us walk you through how we helped our clients in Rosanna.

They owned a single weatherboard home that was too cold and dark in winter, with the layout not quite working for the family. The beautiful backyard was disconnected from the house, the bathroom was outdated, and the family needed more space, including a proper study. They had been unsure where to start and were worried about whether they could afford the changes they desired.

Here’s how we helped:

  1. Site Visit – We visited the home to discuss what the clients liked and disliked, what their dreams were, and the changes they wanted to make. We also talked about any necessary repairs, upgrades, or maintenance.
  2. Preliminary Floor Plan – We created a simple sketch of a new layout, which was then refined based on their feedback.
  3. Builder Consultations – We engaged a few builders to get rough cost estimates, helping to provide a clearer idea of potential expenses.
  4. Quantity Surveyor Estimate – Builders often provide general figures, but a quantity surveyor offers a detailed breakdown of the materials and works required. This step highlighted where money would go and areas where savings could be made.
  5. Review – We then met again to discuss the builder feedback and cost estimates from the quantity surveyor, assessing whether the clients’ budget aligned with their vision, or if adjustments were necessary.

Thanks to this process, our Rosanna clients felt confident enough to proceed with their extension.

What If You Want to Build a New Home?

The process is just as straightforward if you’re planning a new build. We’ll sit down with you to talk through your ideas, hopes, and dreams for your future home. We’ll then prepare simple concept sketches and involve an estimator to provide an accurate sense of the potential build cost. This way, you’ll know if your dream home is within reach, without wasting time or money.
